The History of 22 Bar
22 Bar is back after an 18 year break, having opened its doors again in 2024. The once upbeat club was one of the longest running nightclubs in Reykjavík from 1988 - 2006. The bar is located at Laugavegur 22, a historic wooden building built in 1905 on the corner of Laugavegur and Klapparstíg. The building has hosted numerous restaurants and entertainment venues over the years including the bar Bravó, which became quite popular during the break in 22's history.
Laugavegur 22 has a long history as a hangout spot for gay people and 22 was a popular place with the gay community back in its club days.
Today 22 Bar is run next to the queer bar, Kiki, as a quieter contrast to the booming dance party upstairs. Both bars at Laugavegur 22 continue to support the LGBTQ+ community with Kiki on the upper floor and 22 on the lower floor.
